Day Skipper
Coastal Skipper – Course Completion Certificate

Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Offshore – Certificates of Competence
Responsibility for issuing certificates of competence for sail and power vessels
is given to the RYA by the British Government through the Maritime and Coastguard
Agency. The MCA is an agency of the Department of Transport.
The RYA is authorised
to qualify examiners, provide examinations and issue certificates on behalf of the
MCA for the following qualifications:
Yachtmaster Ocean certificate of competence*
Yachtmaster
Offshore certificate of competence*
Coastal Skipper certificate of competence*
Day
Skipper certificate of competence*
(*commercial endorsements may be added to these certificates to enable their professional
use in relation to UK codes of practice for small commercial vessels.)
The RYA also
accredits training centres who provide training towards these qualifications. RYA
examinations are conducted independently of the training centres to ensure the integrity
of these qualifications.
If you require a Certificate of Competence then please let us know on the enquiry form so that an external examiner can be booked ahead of time.
Also before applying for a course check the following: You have a log book filled in and up to date, you meet the minimum qualifications and have the necessary certificates in date (especially so for a commercial endorsement) and bring your log book with you.
